Wikis

SJCPL Subject Guides is a really nice way to find books related to subjects, but is limited if you use the search bar. I typed in "Cats" and ended up in the pets category... so if you are doing a general search it's okay, but if you are looking for something really specific, you might have a hard time.

I found Book Lovers Wiki pretty cool because the books that are recommended should be an enjoyable read... but it doesn't take into account the people who don't like the book. People who don't like it generally won't be bothered to change the rating...

Library Success: A best practices wiki was a bit difficult to use... as the pages are quite specific and I only managed to find a wiki page by clicking on "Random Page". A page called "Libraries Services in Rural, Native, and Tribal Libraries" popped up... o__O

So I think it's going to take a wee while before we can get the wiki system working well for libraries. It will take a lot of constant updating and very committed people haha. But no system is perfect, and I think this is a really good start.

As with all these types of things, unless someone drives it, they tend to fall over
